Interview with An Xiao Mina: Meme Expert
An Xiao Mina, an xiao mina otherwise known as a meme expert, has used memes to create narratives for various topics and stories. Something that she mentioned that was memorable to me was what a meme actually is. She stated “ Memes are digital content that is shared amongst a community that changes over time.” The meme above shows Vice President Kamala Harris on the phone with Joe Biden after they had won the election. This video quickly became viral and was a meme on multiple social media platforms. Mina continues to explain that she wrote her book to help “expand how we think about memes,” and question how culture flows through the internet. I learned that our filter bubble affects what we see on the internet. Everything we search is influenced by what we have previously looked at.
